FLORENCE-1R-MAXI-WG – WALL-GRAZING OPTIC FOR HIGH POWER LEDS

LEDiL introduces a new addition to its FLORENCE-1R family, the FLORENCE-1R-MAXI-WG linear wall-grazing lens designed for interior architectural lighting. The FLORENCE-1R-MAXI-WG has an asymmetric oval light beam pattern and a very narrow beam with high peak value to maximize light falling into wall. The FLORENCE-1R-MAXI-WG can be used as a single unit to highlight a certain zone of the wall or as continuous lamp line for overall wall washing illumination. It can be installed either to the ceiling or on the floor level and fastened with FLORENCE-CLIPs. The 1R-MAXI-WG features uniform wall performance with optimal vertical depth and horizontal wideness and the design also allows the illumination to start already from the mounting level. The FLORENCE-1R-MAXI-WG is designed especially for high power LEDs. Linear optical design enables easy scaling for desired module lumen output.

LEDiL’S NEW BLONDIE – BLADE-TYPE REFLECTOR WITH HIGH EFFICIENCY

Blade type wall grazing luminaires have become relatively common in outdoor architectural lighting. These are good choices for emphasizing details and adding structure for the buildings. Traditional ways to create this type of beams with cylindrical lenses are very inefficient. Quite often these luminaires feature a halogen bulb using tens of watts of energy. To overcome this, LEDiL has created the BLONDIE reflector capable of producing the same type of lighting with a single LED source using only a few watts of energy. The BLONDIE reflector produces a very narrow beam on the wall which can be shaped even narrower by designing shades to the luminaire. To shape the double-sided beam of BLONDIE further, it is delivered with three interchangeable inserts. With these additional reflector pieces, the backside light can easily be shaped into different angles. The BLONDIE reflector is compatible with single and multi-crystal LEDs in sizes up to Cree MK-R.

HORTICULTURAL LIGHTING

Until now horticulturists have only been able to dream of regulating plant growth, increasing harvests and prolonging the blooming time of plants. Thanks to LEDs, what few thought could ever be possible, is now a reality; welcome to the future. horticultural lighting Plants have a completely different sensitivity to light colours compared to humans, consuming light and requiring photons for photosynthesis. Constant quality of the light spectrum is very important for production and plant growth is strongly determined by photosynthetic photon flux (PPF). As LEDs allow us to control spectral content, we can match spectra to an individual plant’s needs according to species and growth stage. Lenses allow for better optical control, ensuring light is directed where it is required to ensure no wasted energy off target. The amount and ratio of different wavelengths determine how, and how fast, plants grow and produce crop. LED horticultural lighting can be used for top lighting, vertical farming and intra-canopy lighting and can mimic daylight to provide stable, optimized growing conditions for each plant. Uniform light and spectral distribution produces healthier, more productive plants. The right optics help focus light energy on the plants resulting in greater photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) using less power. Furthermore, optics aid higher crop yields and shorter growing cycles as well as reducing luminaire bill of material costs. LEDs also have lower radiated heat, meaning luminaires can be placed closer to plants, allowing for more dense farms and reduced water consumption. And of course we mustn’t forget sustainability; LED luminaires have a much longer lifetime compared to traditional light sources, resulting in much reduced maintenance costs. So the key questions to ask when designing horticultural lighting are; Does the light generate enough and the correct ratio of photons? Are the valuable photons going where they are needed, and how efficient is the luminaire at generating those photons? Of course none of this really matters if the components aren’t up to the job. At the end of the day you get out what you put in and a successful grow-light fixture is the sum of its components; like LEDiL’s recently launched horticultural optic PETUNIA2 and the soon to be released DAHLIA.

WALL WASHING SETUP

Typical starting point for creating wall washing setup for 2-3 meter wall is to place F14487_FLORENCE-1R-MAXI-WG in 10…20 cm distance from the wall and taking into account asymmetric light direction (shown by arrow in the lens).

OPTIMAL DISTANCE BETWEEN OPTIC AND WALL DEPENDS ON:

optimal distance between florence-1r-maxi-wg and wall

PERFORMANCE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HIGH POWER AND MID POWER USE

Typically using high power LED allows better CD/LM peak result with only minor differences on total efficiency. In practice CD/LM difference can be noticed on vertical illumination depth in wall washing applications.

XP-E2 comparisons to Fortimo 1R LED lines as follows, typically mid power LED peak ~70% from XP-E2 LED type:

PERFORMANCE COMPARISON BETWEEN HIGH POWER AND MID POWER

REFLECTIONS FROM COMPONENTS AND LIGHT FIXTURE DESIGN

As shape of the photometry allows very close (10-20 cm) installation distance to wall, reflections from components inside lens and wire holes are recommended to be taken care by light fixture design. Recommended examples as follows:

Wall side component and wiring outlet covered by lighting fixture

Wall side component and wire outlet covered by recessed mounting

Wall side component and wire hole outlet covered by surrounding frame-holder

Reflection cover dimension recommendation

As a guideline following led arrangement provides best efficiency on the wall (obviously not always possible):

ASSEMBLY

Before assembling the product ensure that mounting surface is even and not causing pressure on the light fixture.

Slide the lens into the aluminium profile and make sure the whole lens is evened out, so that every hole reserved for connectors are hidden inside the profile. assembly guidelines

The fastening clips will be installed on both sides of every lens. assembly guidelines

Press the clips inside the profile with the help of a flat headed screwdriver.
It may be easier to place one side to its place at first, and then press the other side down.

These small arrows on the other side of the lens show direction of the light beam, so make sure they are pointing towards the wall. small arrows show direction of the light beam
