PROJECT
The "lighting stop line" by Lossew from Russia is an enhanced safety lighting system for pedestrian crossings. The compact street light projects an actual red light of up to 2 metres across the pedestrian crossing acting not just as a visible stop signal but also a psychological barrier.SOLUTION
To create the "stop line" on the road Lossew used LEDiL's FLARE-MAXI lens as it has a clear cut-off. For the red pedestrian stripe they used LEDiL's EMILY-O-90 lenses. This combination provided a light strip of the required parameters, not only illuminating the pavement, but also the pedestrian on it.BENEFITS
In the evening, when drivers are tired and driving in heavy traffic they may not notice traffic lights. The “lighting stop line” projects light onto the entire road to attract the attention of drivers. If the driver crosses the "stop line" at red lights the interior of the car glows red. The system also illuminates pedestrians as they approach the crossing making them more visible to drivers. Pedestrians are also often distracted by their phones, but when they approach the crossing the red light also illuminates their clothes bringing their attention back to where they are.TOPICS OF THIS ARTICLE: OPTICS FOR PEDESTRIAN CROSSINGS / STREET LIGHTING OPTICS
